Princess Charlotte made her Wimbledon debut wearing a sweet blue frock yesterday – and royal watchers think the eight-year-old’s dress has a hidden meaning.

The young royal joined her mother Kate Middleton, 41, father Prince William, 41, and brother Prince George, nine, at the All England Club for the men’s final.

Dressing for the occasion, Charlotte donned a knee length frock with flutter sleeves and a shirred panel on the waist.

Royal watchers noticed that the dress, made from white cotton with a largely blue floral print, is from Spanish brand Friki, costing £169. She also wore a cool pair of pink £21 sunglasses.

This prompted some speculation that the outfit had been chosen in honour of King Felipe of Spain, who was also at Wimbledon, cheering on Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz (who would go on to win the match).

Some thought she may have opted for a dress from a Spanish label in honour of King Felipe, who was also at Wimbledon, cheering on Carlos Alcaraz

One Twitter user wrote that the young royal was wearing ‘a [Spanish] dress from Maria to honour Felipe,’ suggesting that the Wales’ Spanish nanny Maria had purchased the frock.

Other social media users noted that the princess, who also appeared to be cheering on Carlos Alcaraz, had a conversation with King Felipe.

One wrote: ‘Very sweet! King Felipe of Spain chats with Princess Charlotte. As her parents proudly watch. I adore how William lovingly watches his baby girl. Charlotte, like her parents & great grandma, QEII has excellent eye contact espec at such a young age.’

Another added: ‘Look at Charlotte’s face when talking to a king. She’s a born queen.’

And a third agreed, writing: ‘Adore that look on Princess Charlotte’s face. Totally absorbed.’

Also commenting on the interaction, one wrote: ‘The way Charlotte is looking at King Felipe.’

Meanwhile another, noting the youngster’s manner, said: ‘Princess Charlotte is so self assured now, it’s lovely to see.’

Following the Wales’ family outing yesterday, royal watchers also noted the close bond between Kate Middleton and her daughter.

Royal watchers took to Twitter to comment on Princess Charlotte’s appearance at Wimbledon yesterday, many praised the young royal

During the match, which appeared to have the eight-year-old on tenderhooks, Kate was snapped stroking Charlotte’s face and leaning in close to chat with her.

Arriving at SW19 with her husband and two children yesterday, the Princess of Wales told Ella Ottaway, who runs the All England Club’s young people programme: ‘It’s Charlotte’s first time, George came last year. They’ve been eagerly watching.’

On her first ever visit to the Wimbledon Championships Charlotte chatted to Mu’awwiz Anwar, who performed the coin toss ahead of the match.

The eight-year-old presented Mu’awwiz with the coin he used to decide which finalist served first in the final.

Kate walked into the grounds holding hands with her young daughter ahead of the contest yesterday

Meanwhile Kate had looked on as Charlotte met police dog Stella and was seen petting the springer spaniel, who will retire when she turns nine next year.

As the family entered Centre Court, Kate walked in hand-in-hand with Princess Charlotte, who appeared to be beaming with excitement.

The little royal was snapped grinning as she marvelled at well-fought points during the five-set match.

But at times, the princess sunk into her chair and looked as though she couldn’t bear to watch.

Kate appeared in tune with her daughter, leaning close to chat with her during moments of the match, as well as stroking her face and placing a hand on her chair.

Many noted that the young royal seemed confident and poised during the appearance – particularly given her young age

George and Charlotte were  on tenterhooks during the final that ultimately saw Alcaraz claim the winner’s trophy and £2.35million prize fund.

At one point George was seen putting his head in his hands following a near miss point. Dressed in a blue suit and tie, the heir to the throne frequently leant over to discuss parts of the match with his father beside him.

The two siblings could be seen cheering with their fists in the air as Alcaraz, 20, claimed a 3-2 victory in a match that had seemed impossible.

Their mother, the Princess of Wales, beamed as she congratulated the 20-year-old Spaniard and handed him his trophy – who emotionally held it up to the crowd who had backed him throughout the nearly five-hour long game.

Louis, the youngest member of the family, was said to be unhappy that he couldn’t join them despite practising being a ballboy this year.
