Royal Mail aims to deliver to all addresses it has mail for six days per week, however this is not always possible for a number of reasons.

Resourcing issues, high levels of staff sickness absences, poor weather conditions and local factors can all be responsible for postal delays.

Royal Mail shared a service update for the weekend (Saturday July 22 – Sunday July 23), and told customers the three UK offices most impacted by delays.

The postal service apologised for any inconvenience caused but explained that there are strategies in place to mitigate the effects of delays.

In cases where offices are adversely affected, Royal Mail said: “We will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.

“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”

Royal Mail added: “If you need to collect an item for which we’ve left a ‘Something for You’ card, please check royalmail.com/services-near-you for details of our Customer Service Point locations and opening hours.”

The postal service also explained that services may be disrupted in the RG40 and RG41 postcodes due to flooding at the Wokingham Delivery Office.

Royal Mail apologised for any inconvenience caused and added: “Contingency plans are in place to deliver as much mail as possible from a neighbouring delivery office.

“If you’ve recently received a ‘Something for you’ card and wish to collect your mail, please wait until we update this page to confirm Wokingham Delivery Office has reopened.”

Royal Mail also provided new information on post in Jersey, stating: “Royal Mail and Jersey Post have made the joint decision to remove the current dedicated postal flight and instead use the pre-existing ferry service to send and receive post from the island. This will result in a two-day service.

“All mail to and from the island will be delivered by ferry from Monday August 7.”
