With the cost of living continuing to bite hard, homeowners are desperate for ways to reduce their energy bills. Given that the weather is back to its usual tricks, drying your laundry outside on a washing line is no longer an option.
As the temperature drops as we draw ever closer to winter, we look at alternate methods of drying your clothes that do not involve hanging them outside or using as much energy as the money-guzzling tumble dryers.
It is no surprise that people are keen to avoid using the tumble dryer, a device that notoriously uses a lot of electricity.
With them costing around 37.5p an hour to run, if you do several washes a day, your bill will soon rack up.
Thankfully, there is a device that not only means you can avoid hanging your laundry outside in the unpredictable weather, but it also costs, on average, less than half the price of a tumble dryer to run.
Heated airer
Many people are choosing to buy heated airers, which run at a cost of about 13.7p per hour—less than half the price of a tumble dryer.
While there is an initial investment in the plug-in device, the clothes drying kit could save you hundreds of pounds in the long run.
Heated airers can be picked up for under £50 from Aldi, B&Q, Dunelm, and Robert Dyas.
Dehumidifier
Another investment that could end up saving you a great deal of money in the long run is a dehumidifier.
Using a dehumidifier costs, on average, around 20.33p per hour, which is almost half the cost of a tumble dryer.
Not only will it dry your clothes quickly, but it also prevents condensation and mould from wet clothing.
It is worth shopping around to see the latest deals, but you should be able to purchase one for under £50.
Laundrette
Although you are technically using a tumble dryer at the laundrette, you could save money if you limit your trips to once a week.
Four trips per month would cost around £28 at a typical laundrette, which charges between £5 and £7 for a large-sized machine.
Otherwise, you could do your laundry less often and wear all of your clothes, including the ones hiding away in your wardrobe.
By doing so, you will save money.
