Two Northerners have shared the everyday behaviour they were shocked by after moving to London – including constantly angry commuters and pubs closing early.

Ames Banks, 25, known by the same handle on TikTok, moved from Derbyshire to the British capital for a role in social media marketing.

She took to the social media platform detailing the differences between the North and South, in a clip titled ‘Weird things about moving to London – northern girl edition’.

Sitting in a restaurant, Ames munched on a burger with her childhood best friend Sophie while she told her 10,000 followers the plight of northerners who move down to London.

The pair are both northerners who moved down south for their respective professional pursuits.

Ames, who has lived in the city for four years bonded with Sophie, who’s just moved to London, over their shared experience in the light-hearted clip.

The lifestyle influencer who specialises in shooting cosy vlogs and showing fans how she navigates her 20s asked her friend ‘all the things that Sophie finds weird’.

Sophie recalled how she was getting on the bus and wasn’t going to the final stop, so she innocently asked the driver: ‘Can I have a single to Liverpool Street?.

She received an aggravated response from the ‘grumpy’ driver urging her to tap her card on the contactless reader.

She also pointed out that nobody seems to pay any attention to pedestrian crossings, saying: ‘If there’s cars when you’re trying to cross the road, that’s the time you cross.’

Another shock Sophie experienced was the apparent lack of warmth and constant anger. The confused woman exclaimed: ‘I’m walking to work and everybody’s angry’.

Sophie explained: ‘I don’t know why they’re angry – it was even sunny, it wasn’t even raining. Everyone’s angry’.

Referring to her experience with the London Underground, the self-described ‘northern gal’ mentioned: ‘No one looks at each other. I’m not trying to smile.

‘Don’t look at anyone, barge everyone out of the way.’

Reaction: Ames’ clip on the north-south resonated with fans so much that it has garnered just under 70,000 views and been liked over 3,000 times since it was posted earlier this week.

The north is also famed for its good nightlife, so it’s no surprise that Sophie wasn’t too impressed by the nightlife offering in London.

Visibly shocked, Sophie told her pal Ames: ‘Places close early in midweek for drinks’.

Childhood friend and influencer Ames replied: ‘In Leeds you can find loads of places open, but London no way’. She admitted: ‘I might just be going to the wrong places so tell me!’
