Why decluttering your space can help bring in new energy for the New Year

Put Twixmas to good use with a refresh of your space.

Decluttering is useful for us all year round, helping our wellbeing (as the old adage goes ‘the state of your room is the state of your mind’) and keeping our homes looking tidy.

But decluttering can also be good for you spiritually, or so the experts in the industry believe.

Betty Andrews, founder of spiritual and wellness app Woo Woo, says there are ‘so many benefits’ to decluttering – and many of these can help signal to the universe you’re ready to receive new waves of abundance.

If there isn’t the space for new things to land in your life, a cluttered room could slow down their arrival.

Betty tells Metro.co.uk: ‘Marie Kondo was the real deal. Removing things from your house/environment/life has both physical and energetic benefits.

‘Everything external affects the internal.’

She believes that a good clear-out can help you be more present in the here and now by cutting ties to the past, creating space for new beginnings.

So if you want to give yourself the best chance for growth by getting rid of meaningless attachments, here’s how.

Ways to declutter

First, start by removing things that work in opposition to what you want to manifest.

Betty says: ‘There are a few ways to determine what you should get rid of, one of the easiest ways is to obviously look at things from your past that you don’t want anymore.

‘This could be things from past relationships, or memories you don’t want to be reminded of.’

A tip for knowing what to declutter

Betty says: ‘I look at things in my room and I write a score them out of 10 for how much good energy I get from them. Because you really only want to be surrounded by things that make you feel good.’

She recommends setting intentions for what you’d like to bring in when you replace items.

For example, getting rid of your ex’s stuff lets you work towards manifesting a new partner. Or if your goal is to have a better work/life balance, you might focus on decluttering your home office and making it somewhere more enjoyable to be.

‘A great way to align with the best things for yourself that you want to bring in is to think about what your future self has,’ adds Betty.

‘Connect to this intention when you close your eyes and think about what you see, and feel here. And you can start to bring in those things into this timeline, and the here and now.’

Even if you aren’t sold on the idea, it’s worth a go – you might just help nudge something along in your life.
