Perfect Princesses! Kate stuns in green Burberry suit as she and William welcome Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit of Norway to Windsor Castle

The Prince and Princess of Wales have welcomed Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway to the UK this morning. 

Kate, 41, and Prince William, 40, held a meeting alongside the Norwegian royal couple, both 49, at Windsor Castle. 

Dressed to impress, mother-of-three Kate donned a Burberry green suit and matching blouse from the brand for the occasion.

Looking equally elegant, Mette-Marit, who wed heir to the throne Haakon in 2001, sported a vibrant long-sleeved red dress as she posed for a group photograph alongside the other royals.

Her husband Haakon donned a sharp navy suit, like William, and opted for a patterned blue tie. The Prince of Wales, meanwhile, donned a red tie.

Kate, who last met the Norwegian royal couple in 2018, alongside William, teamed her statement suit with a recycled green pussybow blouse from Burberry and added a touch of glitz to her look with a pair of dainty earrings. 

Meanwhile, looking effortlessly elegant, Mette-Marit completed her look with a smattering of glamorous makeup, while keeping her curly hair down. 

The meeting was held with representatives from leading Norwegian businesses working on green energy solutions: Alex Grant, Senior Vice President and UK Country Manager, Equinor, Øivind Eriksen, CEO, Aker ASA, Børre Jacobsen, Managing Director, Northern Lights JV.

His Excellency Wegger Chr. Strømmen, Norwegian Ambassador to the UK, was also in attendance at the second meeting.

Haakon and Mette-Marit’s two-day visit aims to promote an increased business sector with a focus on green industrial transition, innovation and energy alongside a promotion of Norwegian literature and music. 

Yesterday Mette-Marit put on a glamorous display as she attended the Norway Night networking reception at Lindley Hall in London, alongside her husband.

She stepped out in a shimmering navy gown and proving to be the Queen of colour coordinating, the mother-of-three teamed her dazzling dress with navy heels and a matching clutch bag.

Featuring a drop hem and ruffled three-quarter sleeves, the fashionable maxi dress boasted statement shoulder padding.

Letting her statement gown do all the talking, the princess opted to forgo any glittering accessories for her outing last night. 

Her husband Haakon, who is heir to the Norwegian throne, looked equally sophisticated in a navy suit and pink tie. 

The royal couple were pictured on stage during the reception, each holding notes thought to be for delivering a speech. Mette-Marit donned a pair of silver-framed glasses when joining her husband on stage.

Haakon is heir apparent to the throne of Norway. Despite being older, his sister Princess Märtha Louise of Norway is fourth in line to the throne due to Norway’s succession rules. 

Mette-Marit was born a commoner, to farmers in Norway and was a single mother by the time of her engagement to Crown Prince Haakon in 2000.

She became Crown Princess after the couple’s marriage in 2001. Mette Marit has spent her reign championing humanitarian projects while joining official visits.

Her first official appearance was at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony at Oslo City Hall on December 10, 2000, following the announcement of the couple’s engagement on December 1.

Elsewhere, the Prince and Princess of Wales have also had a busy week. Kate accompanied her husband, William, who was making his first visit to the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards at Combermere Barracks in Windsor as their newly appointed Colonel of the Regiment on St David’s Day.

It was a position King Charles had held since 1975, with his son and heir taking over in December.

The Prince and Princess went on to meet many of the families of the Welsh Guardsmen, as well as men and women from the Australian Army who are based in the UK to help train Ukrainian soldiers.

Kate was presented with a bouquet of flowers from Royal fan seven-year-old Elsi-Haf Cunningham, who was wearing traditional Welsh dress while her father took part in the parade.

Her mother, Krystal Cunningham, 59, said her daughter will remember the moment for the rest of her life.

‘It was a very proud moment, she absolutely loves the Royal family but has only ever seen Kate on TV,’ she said, adding: ‘It was a big moment for her.’

Kate wore glamorous make-up with pink lipstick and a dark smoky eye. And for the occasion, she sported a replica of a leek brooch belonging to her late grandmother-in-law the Queen.

The original Welsh Guards leek brooch which was designed for Queen Elizabeth II in 1960 using the drawings of the Welsh Guardsmen.

It was presented to the late monarch as a regimental gift, and was funded by the guardsmen themselves, who each paid 12 and a half pence.

In the decades that followed, the Queen made sure to wear the brooch at most events involving the Welsh Guards.

Established in 1915 by King George V, the Welsh Guards are a Light Role Infantry battalion based in Pirbright, Surrey. They have taken part in almost every British Army campaign since the First World War. 

William’s takeover was announced ahead of this year’s Trooping the Colour, which has marked the official birthday of the British Sovereign for more than 250 years.

The King’s Birthday Parade – Charles’s first – will take place on the slightly later date of June 17. The King’s actual birthday is November 14.

It will see the Household Division on Horse Guards Parade, with the monarch attending and taking the salute. There are seven regiments of the senior military unit, which is responsible for delivering state ceremonial and public duties.

The reigning monarch normally holds the appointment of colonel-in-chief of the regiments, but each one also has a colonel who is normally either a member of the Royal Family or a senior officer.
