The Prince and Princess of Wales’s relationship is going to be depicted as ‘weird and stagnated’ in The Crown, according to the actor who plays William.

Ed McVey, 24, said he did not want Kate and William’s royal love story on the hit Netflix series to appear as ‘smooth sailing’.

The second half of season 6 is due to be released on the streaming giant on the 14 December and focuses on their romance, which blossomed at St Andrews University in Scotland.

The show even shows Meg Bellamy, the 21-year-old actress from Wokingham who plays Kate Middleton, recreating the royal’s iconic catwalk in a sheer dress which captured the Prince’s attention.

McVey told The Telegraph: We didn’t want to make it a smooth journey, meeting and falling in love and then getting together.

The actor added that he wanted to put ‘so many bollards and emotional brick walls’ in the way of them getting together in the early stages

‘We wanted it to be stagnated and weird, as relationships are, because there’s never smooth sailing, nothing is ever one thing.’

The actor added that he wanted to put ‘many bollards and emotional brick walls’ in the way of them getting together in the early stages.

‘We want the audience to be like, “oh just say the right thing or just stop being so awkward with each other and just get together” and then luckily you see that in the end,’ he added.

In 2010 after the future King and Queen announced their engagement, Prince William revealed that him and Kate were friends for a while before exploring the prospect of a relationship.

He told ITV News at the time: ‘I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her, and then I knew there was possibly something I wanted to explore there, but we ended up being friends for a while.’

McVey said that people never noticed his resemblance to the Prince of Wales until he bagged the role.

Bellamy said she found it difficult to depict a young Kate as there was ‘no footage’ of her walking or talking in her university era.

The actress said she attempted to pitch her voice higher to make Kate appear more youthful, ‘like myself’.

She described how she underwent intensive training with movement and voice coaches – and even took costumes home.

‘I could bring home an outfit of Kate that really felt like her so I just kind of walked around the house and felt her,’ the actress explained.

The highly anticipated final instalment of The Crown will be available on Netflix starting December 14

The actress said she also trained with movement and voice coaches, and even took costumes home to help her get into character

‘And it is staggering how that changes how you walk, how you carry yourself because, you know, when you’re wearing low rise jeans and a vest top you really do hold yourself differently as to when I wear high rise jeans and baggy clothes.’

‘So that was really important and an integral part of the process,’ she continued.

Part two of the final season begins with William heading back to Eton and he later takes up his place at St Andrew’s University.

However the series highlights his struggles to balance the life of an undergraduate with the constraints of his position as a member of the Royal Family and constant presence of personal protection officers.

First look at the FINAL instalment of The Crown: New teaser shows ‘unpopular’ Charles as well as William and Kate’s blossoming romance (including their first kiss and the future Princess of Wales wearing THAT dress!)

The first trailer for the final instalment of The Crown shows a glimpse into William and Kate’s romance including when he spotted her in the now infamous see-through dress at St Andrews and their first kiss.

Elsewhere in the trailer, then Prince Charles is shown as ‘unpopular’ and arguing with his heir, while the Queen is shown grieving over her sister Margaret’s death.

The part 2 trailer for season six of the show is 2 minutes 44 seconds in length and opens with Princes William and Harry in happier times, showing the two brothers – now thought to be estranged in real life – grinning together as they pose for a family photo.

The Peter Morgan drama, which will be released on Netflix on December 14, has courted controversy for its portrayal of the Windsor family.

As anticipated, the trailer for part two of the final series focuses on that famous catwalk show that is said to have brought the Prince and Princess of Wales closer

The final season cover the early 2000s, with the family struggling with the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death, a growing republican movement and Charles’ tense relationship with William.

The late Queen Elizabeth II, played by Imelda Staunton, is seen in the trailer being offered public feedback by aides on the royals, including criticism that the Windsor family ‘lacked compassion’.

Tony Blair, prime minister in the years following Diana’s death, is dubbed ‘King Tony’ in one scene, as the portrayal of his perceived power during his first term is dramatised.

The drama depicts the moment Prince William (Ed Mcvey) arrives at Kensington Palace to greet mourners following the death of his mother in 1997

The series also depicts Prince William as overwhelmed as he gets out of the car to greet thousands of mourners gathered at Kensington Palace in the days after his mother was killed in a car crash in a Paris underpass in 1997.

Later, the show suggests friction between father and son, as Prince Charles is seen telling William: ‘We don’t do fathers and sons very well in this family’.

There’s plenty of feel-good moments as the teaser reaches its crescendo though.

It’s thought a large chunk of part two of the final series of The Crown will focus on the blossoming relationship between the now-Prince and Princess of Wales onto our screens.

In the trailer, Prince William is seen looking doe-eyed as he spots his future wife in the now famous fashion show. As the trailer closes, they share a passionate first kiss.

Photos released earlier this week showed Meg Bellamy, the 21-year-old actress from Wokingham who was plucked from obscurity to play Kate, recreating the royal’s iconic look as she took centre state at St Andrew’s Bay Hotel in 2002.

Hard to swallow: Imelda Staunton as the late Queen Elizabeth II is seen taking in the news that public opinion of the family had reached one of its lowest points during her reign

The first-look images show Meg wearing a recreation of the Charlotte Todd-designed strapless dress with turquoise trim for the scene, with her hair in the same soft ringlet waves.

Posting the photos on X, formerly Twitter, the Netflix account teased the ‘first look at the epic conclusion’ of the royal drama – while Meg herself posted the catwalk snaps on her Instagram account and wrote: ‘It’s nearly timeeee…’

William is thought to have paid £200 for a ticket to sit on the front row of the show with friends and is rumoured to have turned to one of them and said: ‘Wow, Kate’s hot.’

It is said to be the turning point in the couple’s relationship, as they eventually went from close friends to developing romantic feelings for each other.

The dress in question went on to sell for a staggering £78,000 at auction following the catwalk show and became one of Kate’s best-known fashion moments.

The pair were studying at St Andrew’s University at the time and met the previous year, although Kate’s catwalk appearance is thought to have been the catalyst for romance.

Kate was working towards an art history degree, while William, who initially enrolled for history of art, had switched to geography.
