Woman realises shes been pronouncing her name wrong after watching Disney film

A woman is convinced she has been saying her unusual name wrong her entire life after watching Lilo & Stitch.

"I have pretty much heard it all and I don't think anybody has my first name.

"The only time I've ever seen it is that one girl from TikTok commenting that her sister has my name and in Lilo & Stitch 2 – and I think I've been pronouncing it wrong."

The new mum said she replayed the Disney movie and realised it "didn't sound anything" like how she said her name.

She continued: "Don't get me wrong, I love my name and love how unique it is. I love the meaning of it as well.

"It means "helper of mankind" and I feel like that really fits my entire life and my personality.

"I have been pronouncing my name 'Ah-lay-kah' but that's not how I think it's pronounced.

"But in Lilo and Stitch, I think they pronounce it 'Ah-leh-KAH'. If you've been to Hawaii or know anything about Hawaiian names, let me know how to pronounce my name please!"

The clip has since gone viral with viewers flocking to the comments section to share their thoughts.

One said: "I love it! In Lilo & Stitch, it's because in the Hawaiian language, the vowel /e/ is pronounced as 'eh'."

A second wrote: "I went to school with an Aleka and she pronounced it 'Ah-Lee-Caw'."

"That was the first thing I thought of exactly how you pronounced it," a third noted.

Some mentioned that they have Greek friends named "Aleka" and others shared their unique names, saying "It's definitely a love-hate relationship".
