It can be tricky to find a bargain in the world of property – but a new US listing has proved hidden gems really do exist for those willing to take a gamble.

A home up for sale in Pontiac, Michigan, has just been named as the ‘world’s cheapest home’ – with an asking price of just $1 (or around 78p).

While it’s clear new owners will have a project on their hands, with weeds and overgrown shrubbery surrounding the house, it could be the dream doer-upper home for many.

The two-bed, 742 square-foot property features one bathroom but has missing walls and a general derelict aesthetic.

The two-bed home was previously sold in February of last year for $4,092 (£3,212), according to its price history.

For those intrigued, the listing also points to some unusual features including the avant-garde ‘floor hole’ art installation conveniently located next to the furnace – as well as the overgrown outdoor shrubbery, which is home to ‘a selection of local critters.’

However, those willing to give the property a little TLC will reap the rewards.

‘If you’re a visionary, a risk-taker, or simply someone who thrives on life’s little curveballs, this home is calling your name,’ says listing agent Chris Hubel, in the advert on Zillow.

‘Buckle up for a journey filled with twists, turns, and a whole lot of character. Don’t just buy a house, buy an experience.’

He adds that prospective buyers will experience a ‘thrilling rollercoaster of emotions as you discover every nook and cranny that’s begging for your creative touch.’

However, it’s worth pointing out that while the home is on the market for less than a pound, it won’t stop people bidding more on it.

In fact, Chris says he has received nearly 200 offers for the home so far, with the highest bidder offering more than $30,000 (around £23,000).
