Apple’s MacBook Pro gets new design, extra power and more affordable price

The Mac is back with Apple unveiling another batch of pretty mighty updates. The US technology giant has just lifted the lid on its latest 14 and 16-inch Pro laptops at its “Scary Fast event” and all are now powered by the latest M3 series of silicon. That’s going to give them a serious boost over previous devices with Apple promising “phenomenal sustained performance in pro apps and games.”

Just like previous launches, there will be three levels to choose from including a standard M3 which will sit alongside an improved M3 Pro and ultimate M3 Max models.

Apple is promising that all of these chips will bring extra speed to your daily digital tasks with entry-level 14-inch M3 machines around 60 percent faster than the 13‑inch MacBook Pro with M1.

Along with that additional oomph, there should be better battery life as well with the M3 chip now even more efficient than before. In fact, owners can expect around 22 hours of playtime without ever going near a plug.

It’s not just on the inside that things are changing in 2023 with the latest Pro devices getting a new paint job as well. Space Black has now been added alongside the usual Silver and Space Gray shades.

If you fancy that Batman-style finish it’s available across the whole range of 16-inch models and the M3 Pro/Max versions of the 14-inch Pro. That sadly means those buying the entry-level M3 14-inch Pro will miss out.

The final thing to mention is the price with Apple making this new range much more affordable. In fact, the latest Pros start from a more reasonable £1,699 – that’s around £400 cheaper than the previous M2-powered model.

Of course, the more power you add the bigger your bill will get. Start pushing things to the limit and you’ll end up paying over £7,000 for the 16-inch M3 Max model

As well as getting more power, a new look and a lower price, there are all the usual features you’d expect including Liquid Retina XDR displays, built-in 1080p cameras, impressive speakers, MagSafe charging and plenty of ports for your accessories.

“There is nothing quite like MacBook Pro. With the remarkable power-efficient performance of Apple silicon, up to 22 hours of battery life, a stunning Liquid Retina XDR display, and advanced connectivity, MacBook Pro empowers users to do their life’s best work,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.

“With the next generation of M3 chips, we’re raising the bar yet again for what a pro laptop can do. We’re excited to bring MacBook Pro and its best-in-class capabilities to the broadest set of users yet, and for those upgrading from an Intel-based MacBook Pro, it’s a game-changing experience in every way.”

If you fancy treating yourself, the new MacBook M3 Pros will arrive in stores from November 7.
