Call of Duty Warzone could bring back Verdansk this year – but only on mobiles

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile could be release before the year ends and bring back the series' beloved Verdansk battle royale map.

According to Pocket Lint, whose reporters tested a preview version of the game, Warzone Mobile uses a scaled-down version of the Modern Warfare II engine.

It also includes a battle royale mode as well as 6v6 multiplayer game modes including Domination and Team Deathmatch.

What's more, the game will launch with Verdansk as the main battle royale map, returning COD fans to Warzone's original sprawling map.

Pocket Lint's Max Freeman-Mills wrote: "We played it for a couple of hours at a preview event in London earlier this month, and learned a lot more about what it's going to offer at launch, which could arrive in a limited released before the end of 202 according to its team."

Warzone Mobile was first announced in September 2022. Call of Duty developers say it will support up to 120 players at once and even include cross-progression, allowing you to level up your guns and armoury on console while playing the mobile version.

Warzone 2.0 was only just released for consoles the other week. It combines a full graphics upgrade to the Modern Warfare II engine with a brand new Battle Royale map and setting, Al Mazrah.

It was released just weeks after Modern Warfare II itself, the latest instalment in the long-running shooter series.

Our reviewer praised it for its "stellar action-packed story campaign featuring some of the best next-gen graphics out there, the return of co-op mission play and a thoroughly addictive multiplayer suite."
