Elon Musk insists ‘bedrooms at Twitter HQ’ are just for ‘tired staff’

It's another day and another public spat for Elon Musk—as he takes on San Francisco city authorities for investigating a number of bedrooms he set up at Twitter HQ.

San Francisco building inspectors are probing Twitter for violating planning permission, as it appears a number of conference rooms at its HQ have been turned into 'makeshift bedrooms' complete with armchairs and bedside tables.

Musk hit out at the city for attacking "companies providing beds for tired employees instead of making sure kids are safe from fentanyl", referencing the recent death of a baby from an apparent fentanyl overdose.

Fentanyl is a powerful pain drug that is considered 50-100 times stronger than morphine, and is linked to drug deaths across the United States.

A city official responded to his fentanyl complaint saying "it's important to keep public spaces safe".

The introduction of bedrooms at Twitter HQ appears linked to Musk's new 'hardcore Twitter 2.0' work culture.

Shortly following his takeover of the social media giant and mass sackings, he urged Twitter employees to sign up to a new work-intensive regime or otherwise leave the company.

The bedrooms have since been introduced to cater to newly-knackered employees, who he has forced to return to the office after several years of working from home.

Musk is well-known for imposing gruelling working conditions and hours on his employees.

In November, Tesla workers said they fear dying working on Musk's gigafactory in Austin, Texas due to alleged poor conditions.

One staff member reportedly told his wife: "I'm going to die in this factory".

A complaint was filed with the US Department of Labour on November 15 after whistleblowers came forward to complain about safety issues.
