Elon Musk tells people to enjoy ‘the rest of their life’ after sacking 200 staff

Elon Musk appears to have posted a cryptic tweet after sacking up to 200 employees from Twitter over the weekend.

The Twitter CEO took to the platform yesterday evening to say: "Hope you have a good Sunday. First day of the rest of your life."

This was just after the news emerged that he had sacked as many as 200 more employees from Twitter, or around 10% of the company's estimated remaining 2000 employees.

According to the New York Times, Musk sacked as many as 200 staff including those who had publicly pledged their loyalty to him, including payments chief Esther Crawford.

The new round of job cuts comes just months after Musk cut Twitter's workforce from roughly 7500 staff members to 2000, and promised no further redundancies in late November.

According to the Information, sacked staff found themselves locked out of their company accounts on Saturday, with some claiming it was the first they'd heard of it.

Martijn de Kuijper, who previously worked on product for Twitter, tweeted: "Waking up to find I've been locked out of my email. Looks like I'm let go. Now my Revue journey is really over."

He replied to Musk's tweet saying: "Thank you, Elon!" and shared a post about his ski trip in Val Thorens resort.

Twitter has faced a number of serious problems since Musk took over, including major site-wide outages, as well as a number of legal cases against it from its suppliers.

Musk bought Twitter in 2022, and says he will 'probably' step down as CEO by the end of the year.

In a speech to the World Government Summit in Dubai, Musk said: "I'm guessing probably toward the end of this year would be good timing to find someone else to run the company."

Musk gave himself the job of Twitter CEO after buying the company for $44billion.
