‘Find my iPhone’ saves woman’s life after her car plummeted 60 metres off cliff

Anyone who's ever lost their iPhone will know how useful the 'Find My' tool can be for finding a gadget. But in many cases, it can also save lives.

A woman who nearly died after plummeting 60 metres off of a road was rescued thanks to Apple's 'Find My iPhone' tool.

The unnamed woman crashed her car after travelling home from a family gathering over Christmas.

She is believed to have spent the night trapped in the wreckage of her vehicle in San Bernardino, California, until her family were able to track her down using Find My iPhone.

Her family spotted her vehicle in the bushes about 60 metres below the road.

After they called emergency services, a fire and rescue team attended the scene and found the vehicle beneath a steep drop.

Pictures of the crash show the car stuck on its side, suggesting that it rolled down the hill after being crashed off the road.

Paramedics had to intervene to save her life while firemen built a rope system to bring her back up to road level.

According to the fire department's Facebook page, the women survived with serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

One Facebook user responded to the post by saying: "Thank you 1st responders for getting out safely. Thank you to her FAMILY MEMBERS for due diligence and finding her. Too many times people are not found until it's too late to save their life."

Find My iPhone is just one of Apple's location-based safety features. The company recently introduced Emergency SOS via Satellite, which enables iPhone users to contact emergency services and share their whereabouts in areas without mobile reception.
