Futuristic McDonald’s ‘without a human in sight’ leaves fast food fans divided

The McDonald's of the future is finally here—and it's run almost entirely by robots.

As if fast food service wasn't impersonal enough, a new sci-fi 'Automaccies' has opened which lets you order, pay, and collect your food without ever interacting with a single human.

The fully automated McDonald's has touchscreens to order your food on, which is then delivered through a service hatch by a robotic conveyor belt.

One TikTok user who visited the 'concept' branch, Foodie Munster, said 'it worked pretty well' and that it is 'like no other McDonald's you've been to before', but some people aren't so convinced.

One commenter said: "This will put so many people out of work, I'm not for it."

Another wrote: "We already have too many automated things happening and I feel like we don't need more stuff where you don't interact with actual people. I don't know."

One Instagram user however called it 'pretty dang neat'.

McDonald's has defended the branch, which is in Fort Worth, Texas, as a 'fast and seamless experience for both customers and crew'.

In fact, it isn't actually run entirely by robots. There are still human staff in the kitchen, but they are just obscured from view and hidden behind a wall so you don't have to look at the people who make your food.

Instead, you can enjoy your industrially-processed hamburger in a sterile machine environment in peace, and calmly forget that it was made by an invisible, anonymous workforce who probably don't earn very much money and won't ever get to actually see if their customers are satisfied.
