GTA 6 hacker is ‘same 18-year-old’ that took down Uber, now faces FBI probe

An 18-year-old hacker who 'took over' Uber last week could also be behind this week's massive GTA 6 leak.

More than 90 videos and images claiming to be from the unreleased Grand Theft Auto game were leaked online by a poster named 'teapotuberhacker', causing havoc at Rockstar Games.

The leaker has reportedly claimed that he was also behind the hacking of Uber last week, which saw the entire ridesharing company's network hijacked.

The hacker tricked a company employee into handing over a password which gave them 'high-level access' to its servers, including almost all of its user and driver data.

In a statement today, Uber said: "We believe that this attacker (or attackers) are affiliated with a hacking group called Lapsus$, which has been increasingly active over the last year or so.

"This group typically uses similar techniques to target technology companies, and in 2022 alone has breached Microsoft, Cisco, Samsung, Nvidia and Okta, among others.

"There are also reports over the weekend that this same actor breached video game maker Rockstar Games."

The firm added that it is in 'close coordination' with the FBI and US Department of Justice to investigate the hacker.

Fans of the upcoming GTA 6 game went wild for the leaks earlier this week, which showed off a very early version of the game including the two main characters.

The leaks confirmed a number of longstanding rumours about GTA 6, including its Vice City setting and the inclusion of a playable female protagonist.

Rockstar developers took to Twitter to share how devastated they were and said it wants to 'properly introduce' fans to the game once it is ready, rather than in an unfinished format.
