Little-known iPhone trick can clear storage space without you paying for iCloud

Ever since the launch of the first iPhone, storage space has been a major limitation on Apple's flagship smartphone.

Even in 2022, you can find yourself running out of space for new files and apps and witnessing performance slowdowns.

Unless you've got one of the hefty 1TB-sized iPhone 13 Pro models, you might not ever be able to fit everything you want to.

This is something Apple is banking on, which is why the tech firm routinely encourages customers to sign up to pricey monthly iCloud subscriptions in exchange for some much-needed additional storage.

However, before you reach for your wallet, there are other options.

Your iPhone has a little-known tool called Offload Unused Apps that can help you take back control.

Buried deep in your iPhone settings, it automatically removes apps you don't regularly use and instantly clears out space on your device storage.

All you have to do is open your Settings app, go to General > iPhone storage and then tap 'Enable Offload Unused apps'.

It can free up tons of gigabytes of data while automatically backing up any personal information to the cloud in the meantime.

If this doesn't clear enough space, you can also take advantage of some iPhone cleaner apps which will delete junk files and old unused image caches.

Smart Cleaner is one such app. It declutters your contacts and deletes old videos to free up extra space, which will have a positive knock-on effect on the performance and speed of your iPhone.

However, there are many alternatives out there, so it's worth doing some research. Just make sure you only install apps from the official Apple store to avoid getting any viruses.
