You could soon access private posts from your favourite Instagram accounts thanks to a massive new feature.

Instagram has just announced a huge expansion of its paid-for Subscriptions feature.

Just like OnlyFans or Patreon, this makes it easy for content creators to get monthly payments from their followers in exchange for exclusive posts.

It means you could soon have to pay to see certain posts, rather than being able to view everything for free.

The feature was trialled earlier this year with a handful of accounts in the US and later expanded to tens of thousands of creators.

To start with, Instagram Subscriptions let creators post stories, go live to their subscribers, and hand out subscriber badges.

Now Instagram is adding Subscriber Chats so people can set up DM group chats with their subscribers.

There's also support for posting subscriber-only reels, photos and videos which Instagram users can access via the Subscriber Home page.

Announcing the news, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said: "This is just one step on a much longer path to provide creators everywhere with a whole range of tools to be able to make a living online, but we're really excited about this one."

Unlike OnlyFans or Patreon, Instagram doesn't take a cut of monthly subscriptions, which is designed to make it attractive to original content creators. The platform says that Subscriptions will remain fee-free 'until at least 2023'.

Creators who are part of the programme are given a purple badge next to their username to verify their status.

They can also gain access to subscribers' email addresses to send out newsletters and build a 'more intimate relationship'. with followers.

For subscribers themselves, subscription pricing ranges from as little as 73p per month to £73.35.
