Smartphone addiction is widely considered to be one of the biggest ways you can disrupt a good night's sleep.
The blue light from a phone screen is apparently so harmful for your sleep that many doctors recommend that you don't look at any screens or devices for at least an hour before going to bed.
Perhaps that's why Apple has introduced a little-known iPhone feature designed to help you nod off.

The feature, called 'background sounds' lets you choose from a variety of relaxing noises that can help you fall asleep,
You can listen to a huge range of white noise sounds, including rain, stream, ocean, bright noise, and dark noise.
Psychiatrists believe that constant sounds can have a comforting effect on the brain, allowing you to fall asleep peacefully.
Talking about white noise devices, Dr David Neubauer told Huff Post: "The key feature of the sound devices is the constant sound in contrast to changing sounds like with music, radio, and television.
"Our brains pay attention to changing sound, but a comfortable constant sound can help lull us to sleep."

How to access Background Sounds on the iPhone
It's really easy to try out the iPhone's background sounds, but it requires you to access a part of the phone you might not usually use very often.
You just tap the 'Settings' icon then go to Accessibility > Audio / Visual > Background Sounds.
You just have to pick which sound you'd like and adjust the volume to your liking.
Unfortunately, there's no timer setting for the background noise, so it could run all night.
If you want to set a sleep timer for sleep white noise, there are many alternatives on streaming services like Spotify which also allow you to set a time limit.
