A new 2D Super Mario Bros game has been unveiled for the Nintendo Switch.
Super Mario Bros Wonder sees the famous cartoon plumber and his brother side-scroll their way through a new bunch of classic-designed gaming levels for the handheld console.
It’s the first new instalment in that particular part of the franchise in a decade.
And the gimmick this time seems to be the use of Wonder Flower power ups, which transform the game for short periods, mixing up the gameplay.
So one minute Mario could be running and jumping through a traditional level and the next he could be bouncing along on bendy green pipes like trampolines.

And there’s also a new power-up which turns Mario into an elephant.
The game features Princess Peach, Princess Daisy and Yoshi as playable characters, in addition to familiar characters like Mario, Luigi and Toad.
It’s out on October 20.
Other games unveiled today in a Nintendo Direct video presentation include a visually enhanced version of hit Switch game Luigi’s Mansion 2 for next year.
There was the announcement of Super Mario RPG, which was the ever first role-play game for the hero, revamped with new graphics and coming in November.
A cinematic adventure game in the Pokemon universe called Detective Pikachu Returns is coming in October and features crime solving.
A demo of Pikmin 4 was also announced, available in Nintendo eShop on June 29, as well as HD versions of the original Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 games for Nintendo Switch, which will be available on Nintendo eShop today, individually or as a bundle.
And there’s more micro-game fun incoming this winter with WarioWare: Move It!
Third party games revealed for the Switch include Batman: Arkham Trilogy, a three-game collection of well-loved action-adventure games starring Gotham City’s ultimate protector from maker Rocksteady.
Free-to-play Palia is an adventure sim where you can build the life of your dreams while making new friends in multiplayer mystery-solving.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is coming on December 1 and features a cursed prince and his companion as they travel through a demon realm.
Sonic Superstars features Sega’s blue hero in a high-speed, 2D side-scrolling platformer game.
And Just Dance returns at Christmas for a 2024 edition.
