Three popular apps could cause iPhones to overheat – Apple issues important u…

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are the hottest new smartphones on the market in more ways than one, if several customer and media reports are to be believed. Some say Apple’s latest phones get abnormally warm when charging or using some popular apps, and the claims have got so loud that Apple has commented directly on the matter.

Users of the new iPhones have said online that charging or gaming for long periods of time have driven up the temperature of the handsets to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit – that’s nearly 38 degrees Celsius.

Three popular apps that can cause the new iPhone 15 to overheat are Instagram, Uber, and the racing game Asphalt 9, Apple has told media outlets. Forbes said Instagram released an update on 27 September to address the issue – you can check your iPhone now to make sure you have the even newer update, which is version 303.1.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are the first iPhones to be made from titanium after Apple ditched the stainless steel it had been using for a few years, with some suggesting this could be the reason. However, overheating was also reportedly happening to the aluminium iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus as well.

Apple told the Guardian the overheating problems were not related to the switch to titanium on the Pro iPhones, or the switch to USB-C for the charging port.

Apple announce all products will be ‘Net Zero’ by 2030

It also isn’t happening to all users. We’ve had all four new iPhones in for review at Express.co.uk and haven’t experienced any of the overheating issues, but Apple has considered the reports enough to comment directly.

“We have identified a few conditions which can cause iPhone to run warmer than expected,” an Apple spokesperson told Forbes. “The device may feel warmer during the first few days after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity.”

This is normal for most smartphones and tends to happen if you’re cloning your new iPhone from your old one as all your apps and data are installed quickly. But Apple also thinks there’s something it needs to fix in the iPhone’s software.

The spokesperson continued: “We have also found a bug in iOS 17 that is impacting some users and will be addressed in a software update. Another issue involves some recent updates to third-party apps that are causing them to overload the system. We’re working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of rolling out.”

Apple also confirmed it would not reduce performance of the new iPhones in the planned iOS 17.1 update, something online sleuths had speculated the company might do to address the problem.
