TikTok staff could soon be shown the door as the viral app begins a massive global restructuring effort.

Five people with knowledge of the impending changes have spoken to Wired to confirm that some people will be sacked.

Thanks to a meteoric rise in popularity around the world, TikTok has taken on thousands of staff.

But now, jobs are at risk.

Wired reports that European employees at the short-form video platform have been told to expect meetings with HR over the future of their jobs. This includes UK staff in a number of different departments.

After speaking with sources, Wired journalist Chris Stokel-Walker explained: ‘The restructuring announced internally today includes layoffs and the closing of some vacant roles, one staff member said, and affects TikTok’s businesses in the US, EU, and UK. Plans to expand some teams inside the company have been put on hold.’

TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has recently come under fire for its toxic work culture, with workers quitting the TikTok London office every week due to overwork.
