Update your Freeview TV today or miss out on new channels and 6 big changes

There’s good news if you have a Freeview-powered TV in your living room. The popular free-to-view service has just announced the launch of two new channels on the popular platform along with a raft of changes to the TV planner. It’s a nice boost ahead of the upcoming Christmas holidays especially as one of the updates brings more things for children to tune into.

The new Moochi channel features back-to-back animation aimed at the younger members of the family with shows including Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Secret Museum, Jamie’s Got Tentacles and Misho and Robin all available at launch. Alongside that kid’s update, there’s also the introduction of something called TV Extra which is dedicated to creative and craft shopping.

If you want to watch then you’ll find Moochi on channel 213 and TV Extra on channel 291.

So that’s the new channels but what else is changing on Freeview?

As part of this update, the service has confirmed that a total of six channels are being rebranded and switching positions on the planner.

All of the changes kick in this week and may require users to tinker with their devices to get the update.

“You will need to retune to update your TV and keep your channels and TV Guide up to date,” added Freeview.

If you want to make sure your Freeview device is fully up-to-date then here’s how to retune your telly or set-top box.

HOW TO RETUNE YOUR FREEVIEW TV

Freeview has issued advice on how to retune devices and here are the steps every user needs to follow.

• Press menu on your box or TV remote control

• Select ‘set-up’, ‘installation’, ‘update’ or a similar option. If you’re asked for a password, the default code is ‘1234’ or ‘0000’.

• Select ‘first-time installation’ (sometimes called ‘factory reset’, ‘full retune’ or ‘default settings’).

•Press ‘OK’ if your equipment asks if it’s OK to delete existing channels and then your retune should start automatically. If you’re prompted to, save the channels that are found.
