Japan is well-known for its advanced toilet technology. If you ever find yourself in cities such as Tokyo or Osaka, don't be surprised to be sitting on a toilet which plays rainforest noises while you do your business and then automatically wipes for you.

But it seems Japanese toilet techies have taken things to the next level by fitting smartphone washing ports into McDonald's toilets.

According to Japanese Twitter user Sho Sawada, local branches of McDonald's have now installed phone cleaning stations which can sanitise your device in seconds flat.

A translated version of Sho's tweet reads: "At McDonald's nowadays, not only do they have a place to wash your hands but one to wash your smartphone as well."

The Twitter user shared a video of the phone cleaning device in action.

Visitors to McDonald's toilets only have to place their smartphone in a small slot next to the sink. It's then automatically lowered into the port and disinfected before ejecting the phone.

The company behind the gadget, which is called WOSH, claim that it can kill 99.9% of all germs in under 30 seconds using a UV lights.

However, some people have questioned whether it will work for all phones, such as the bulky Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
