You’re using your iPhone calculator all wrong – it’s full of powerful features

Were you ever told by your maths teacher that you had to study multiplication because you 'won't have a calculator all the time'?

Well, they were unbelievably wrong. But maths teachers of the world can't be blamed for not foreseeing the dawn of the smartphone.

The humble Calculator app is on every single iPhone in the world, and although it might not be the most used app, it's certainly the most useful.

But there's much more to the iPhone Calculator than first meets the eye.

First, there's the 'C' button. Most people are aware that this handy C (or 'clear') button wipes away your number. But it actually doesn't get rid of your whole calculation. Instead, it only erases the last number you entered.

To clear the whole calculator and start from scratch, you have to hit 'C'. It will turn into AC, which means 'all clear', and free up your calculator for some fresh new maths.

You can also erase digits one at a time from the calculator by swiping left or right on the number field. This means you can erase any mistakes without getting rid of everything.

There's even a 'scientific calculator' which gives you way more options. If your screen orientation is unlocked, you can turn the iPhone on its side to activate its 'hidden' mode.

This is similar to the kind of calculator you might have used at school, and comes with all sorts of extra features. There's a 'Rand' key which generates a random number.

On top of all that, you can also copy and paste numbers into the calculator by pinching the display with three fingers. Or, if you want to paste a number, you can just tap and spread three fingers.
