A Place in the Sun presenter Ben Hillman awkwardly struggled to impress a mum with a spacious family-sized in her search for her ideal holiday home.

The Channel 4 property expert was showing hopeful buyer Michelle and her daughter Charlotte around five potential properties in the Canary Islands.

After losing her mum earlier this year Michelle wanted to buy an apartment where her husband Paul and two daughters could make some happy memories together.

She ideally wanted two bedrooms and a pool stretching her £120,000 budget to the max.

But one of the properties on the list failed to live up to their expectations as Michelle was reluctant to splash the cash on a home that was 40 minutes from the beach.

Ben tried to impress with the spacious interior, giving the pair ideas on how to utilise the space – which ultimately failed.

The mum said: "It's huge. This feels to me more of a home, somewhere that if I was coming to live in Lanzarote, I would want."

To which, Ben replied: "There's no excitement in anything you're saying."

"I want to get excited, I want to like it, I'm just not," the mum added.

He then took them outside and suggested ways they could use the garden – like getting hot tubs installed and some lounges at the back.

But the mum had her heart set on property number three – which she claims made her "head spin."

The "modern" one-bedroom home included a communal pool and a balcony with beautiful sea views.

After Facetiming her husband Paul, Michelle and Charlotte decided to put in an offer for £118,000 for the third property.

In the end, they purchased the house for £120,000 and Michelle tearfully said: "After a hard couple of years this has been amazing."
