Alison Hammond kicked off This Morning with the hilarious admission that she’d won the award for best presenter at the National Television Awards on Thursday night. The presenter was in a jovial mood as she and co-host Dermot O’Leary reflected on the unfortunate gaff.
The presenters of the ITV show opened the latest instalment by thanking viewers for their votes as they scooped the award for best daytime tv show.
Dermot held onto the award, which was actually last year’s gong, as Alison thanked fans for their support.
She declared: “We are so very very grateful. You are officially watching Britain’s best daytime show everyone! Thank you so much for voting.”
Both presenters were sporting a hangover from the celebrations and Dermot added: “I think I speak for all of us when I say, ‘I don’t want to go to school today mum.”

Alison told Dermot, “I’ll be honest with you, you were the funniest partner, you sat next to me all yesterday and you just made me laugh throughout the whole show.
She continued: “But the funniest moment was – obviously I was up for an award – and I heard ‘Ant and Dec’ being called but I heard ‘Alison’. In my head, I heard ‘Alison’.”
Dermot interjected: “No, don’t. This is so embarrassing.”
She continued: “So then I reached across to Dermot and said, ‘Did they say Alison?’ and Dermot went, ‘No. They didn’t say Alison.’ I was so shameful. It’s so embarrassing!
“I wasn’t joking. I said, ‘Did they say Alison babes? And you went, ‘No’. But what a great night!”
The popular presenter also thanked their crew: “We are truly, truly, the whole team, they all work incredibly hard. We are so grateful for this award.”
Alison missed out on her first ever National Television Award to the legendary presenting duo Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.
The Geordie double act picked up their astonishing 21st best presenter award at the ceremony.
However, they were unable to grab the trophy in person as they were absent from the glitzy evening.
The pair contracted covid on the day, but friend and colleague Stephen Mulhern was on board on their behalf.
This Morning may have won the best daytime TV award, but the show’s success was not full of glory.
As Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby headed to the stage, but during their long walk to the stage boos could be heard from the audience.
The under-fire presenters used the opportunity to thank fans for their support.
Accepting the gong, a visibly relieved Phillip said: “Don’t think we ever get complacent and please don’t think we ever take this for granted.
“This means so much to us every year, especially this year.”
In what could make for an uncomfortable moment in This Morning studios, Dermot and Alison are currently favourites to replace Phil and Holly as regular presenters.
According to bookmakers Coral, Holly and Phillip have odds of 4/5 of leaving the show.
Alison and Dermot are 1/2 favourites to replace them on the ITV sofas.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub
