All Creatures Great and Small continues to be a Channel 5 hit and the feel-good series promises another heartwarming Christmas episode. Nicholas Ralph and Rachel Shenton return as James Herriot and Helen Alderson as they make the most of the festive period during the war. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about when the special will air.
When is the All Creatures Great and Small Christmas special on?
The festive special was filmed in Yorkshire during the searing heatwave of summer 2022, but it will certainly look like Christmas in Darrowby.
Set a couple of months on from where series three concluded, everyone is trying to make the most of things while the world is at war.
The synopsis reads: “A young guest brings some wonder, mischief, and cheer to Skeldale house while everyone waits for important news.
“When Mrs Pumphrey heralds the arrival of a kitten in need of some extra care at Pumphrey Manor, James has just the person to take him under their wing.”
The All Creatures Great and Small Christmas special airs on Channel 5 on December 23 at 9pm.
The episode will also be available to watch on the streaming platform My5 after it has aired, with a US release date yet to be announced.
The synopsis continues: “Siegfried is asked to pay a visit to an injured River just before a big race and makes an important discovery which Sebright Saunders uses as leverage to get River back on the racetrack.
“Siegfried risks compromising himself and everything he stands for but Tristan has other ideas.
“When Mrs Hall runs into Gerald at the market and hears his news, she finds herself inviting him to a Skeldale Christmas party that hasn’t been organised.
“The rest of the house help her cobble together some guests and a spread – but will he come, and if he does, is Mrs Hall ready to tell him how she feels?”
In the trailer, Tristan Farnon (Callum Woodhouse) is heard reiterating how Christmas is a time for family.
Siegfried (Samuel West) is emotional as he says: “If anything happened to you, it would be the end for me.”

In the season three finale, James was seen preparing to sign up for the war as they wanted to play a more active role in defending the country.
Tristan accompanied James, but it appears he did not sign up himself, much to Siegfried’s relief.
Viewers can expect tears of joy and sadness as the Skeldale House family are glad they are all together for Christmas.
Executive producer Melissa Gallant said: “We are delighted to be offering the audience one more trip back to the sanctuary of Darrowby before the year is out.
“An All Creatures Christmas special always aims to deliver uplifting celebration alongside the often painful reality of Christmas for many, and this year’s episode is no exception.
“Set in December 1939, this is our first Christmas during wartime and we wanted to reflect something of the reality of war for our Skeldale family.
“Ben Vanstone cooks up his signature Christmas feast full of fun, festivity, community, romance, Father Christmas, tears, and of course a resurgence of Mrs Hall’s excellent sausage rolls.
“We have all laughed and cried – a lot – making it and hope it will bring a little necessary joy and catharsis to the end of a challenging year for many.”
