Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) continues to struggle in upcoming Coronation Street episodes as his steroid addiction gets a tighter grip on his life. And as much as he’s trying to hide what’s going on, those closest to him have started to notice something’s not right.
The character has recently returned from spending time with his mum Michelle (Kym Marsh) in Ireland, a break that was supposed to help him come to terms with how his life has changed following the devastating acid attack which left him with scarring on his face and body.
Ryan Prescott told us that there’s no quick fix for his character as he recovers from his injuries and the PTSD associated with what happened.

‘Your face is the first thing you look at when you get up in the morning and look in the mirror. It’s your first means of communication, the thing you most readily identify with yourself. When that changes, everything changes,’ he told us.
‘PTSD, trauma therapy, learning the simple things of dealing with people looking at you in the street. There’s a whole phase of trying to accept that people are going to react differently to you now. The recovery period is so long, if not lifelong. It’s psychotherapy, physiotherapy for many years if not the rest of your life.’
Currently his character has become fixated on his image, and since his return from Ireland we’ve seen him injecting steroids in an attempt to change how his body looks. There’s possibly also an element of wanting to be stronger, to stop feeling like a person who could be the victim of such an attack.
In episodes to be aired soon, Carla (Alison King) urges him to go out and have lunch with Alya (Sair Khan), telling him he hardly leaves his room at the moment.
Ryan is feeling stressed because he’s just discovered that the vials of steroid have leaked in his bag, so he can’t inject. He agrees to go out with Alya, but he can’t relax during the lunch.
Alya tells Carla that Ryan was restless and preoccupied, not like himself at all and she’s worried about him.
Later, Ryan has secured more of the drug and comes into his bedroom with a needle in his hand, only to be thwarted by the sight of Carla making his bed. He tries to hide his mounting anger, but the minute she’s gone he can’t hold himself back and punches the wardrobe as the steroids take effect.
Is he heading for disaster?
