Paul O’Grady is known for his love for animals and his final ITV project involves the presenter travelling to Thailand and exploring the country’s elephant rescue centres.

Paul O’Grady’s Great Elephant Adventure, which is set to air this autumn, is a two-part ITV series.

He travelled through Thailand last year where he paid tribute to the tireless efforts of elephant conservation centres dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and safeguarding these magnificent yet vulnerable creatures.

Paul also heads out from the sanctuaries to grab a slice of local life by exploring nearby markets and sampling the local cuisine.

Each episode highlights a particular challenge faced by elephants in the region and Paul’s genuine affection for animals radiates throughout the series.

Paul is known for his warmth, playfulness and heartfelt connection with the animals is ever-present and woven into the series, accompanied by his quick wit and humour.

His death was confirmed as a result of a cardiac arrhythmia following a history of heart problems.

“He was a huge, inimitable talent, delighting our viewers through his comedy and entertainment with a warmth, humour and joy that audiences of all generations related to and connected with.

“He had a profound passion for animals too, which resonated with so many viewers, and For The Love of Dogs remains one of our best-loved series, and a really special programme for so many.”

Paul’s husband Andre Portasio recently opened up about how he was struggling to cope without him.

Andre admitted that it had been so tough for him, he didn’t leave the house for almost three months.

Speaking to the Daily Star at the time: “I am trying to take it day by day and cope with it. At the moment I am coping.

“It was such a shock for me to lose him. It was a shock to all of us. It was so unexpected. I am still digesting it all.”

Representing Paul, Andre recently attended the British LGBT Awards in June to collect a gong on his partner’s behalf.

Paul O’Grady’s Great Elephant Adventure will air on ITV1 and ITVX this autumn.
