An Antiques Roadshow guest was completely in awe as when they discovered an ancient "unfinished" cameo plate was worth £15,000.

Appearing on the show headed up by Fiona Bruce, which was set in Kenilworth Castle in the West Midlands for Sunday night's episode (January 22), a lady brought on two family heirlooms.

Chatting with expert Will Farmer, the lady revealed that the pieces she was getting valued were actually crafted by members of her family hundreds of years ago.

She appeared on the show, outside the castle ruins, with a delicately engraved bottle and cameo plate/plaque – which were both of a whimsical nature.

The lady told Will, the expert, that the pieces were made either by her great grandfather or her great uncle, although she was unsure who had crafted what.

She explained how her great grandfather was Frederick Engelbert Kny, who was a well-known glass-engraver in Stourbridge coming from Bohemia.

And his son Ludwig, her great uncle, his brother being William, the lady's grandfather.

Will inspected the pieces and then revealed that he believed both of the pieces were by her great uncle Ludwig, rather than her great grandfather who the lady presumed had crafted both items.

The engraved bottle was in fact a scent bottle, while the engraved cameo plate was an unfinished plaque.

After talking things through with the lady, Will revealed that the scent bottle would be worth around £1,000 to £1,500, while the cameo glass was a "slightly different thing".

"I'm going to suggest that this at auction would be £10,000 to £15,000," Will revealed, leaving the guest completely stunned.

"Hmm. Wow," she said while looking totally taken aback.

She then added: "That's wonderful," while nervously giggling and realising what she had just discovered.
