As we remove the dust from the Coronation Street Villain Baton (it’s been a while) and hand it to Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce), we’re left wondering just what the future holds for Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls).
Following Stephen’s return, Audrey has been led to believe her son is a positive influence on her life – she’s been through so much, but she’ll always have Stephen by her side looking out for her…right?
Well, wrong.
When it comes to Stephen’s personality, Corrie boss Iain MacLeod recently told us that, ‘Desperate’s the word, and he will continue to get more and more desperate and more and more dark as the story unfolds.’
‘Mischievous is probably too light a term, but certainly Machiavellian may be a stronger word. I think he’s just brought such an injection of otherness into the show.’
So, as Stephen’s desperation to get his hands on some cash continues, it’s Leo (Joe Frost) of all people who notices that something isn’t quite right about him, telling Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) that he reckons Stephen’s hiding something.
The next day, having paid for their spa day, Stephen checks that Audrey and Gail (Helen Worth) have left.
As Stephen makes out that he enjoyed a night in a posh hotel, Leo wonders why he’s lying and later, when Audrey reveals she found a valuer from the estate agent’s at her house with an appointment booked by Stephen, Leo listens in on the conversation – very intrigued.
But what is going on?
Was Stephen planning on selling Audrey’s house and making his own mum homeless?
