Barbra Streisand talks about first meeting with her husband James Brolin
Superstar Babra Streisand has revealed the inauspicious beginnings of her relationship with her husband of 25 years, actor James Brolin.
Speaking to Ross King on Lorraine, she explained that a friend had set them up but reality and expectation somewhat clashed.
“I walk in and I think I’m gonna meet this guy who looks like he was in Hotel – his television series,” she explained in her familiar New York drawl.
“Wonderful black thick wavy hair,” she swooned. “I look across the room and someone’s waving to me but I’m thinking, ‘Who the hell is that?’
“Being much more outspoken now and not afraid to be outspoken I put my hands on his hair and I say: ’Who f****d up your hair?’

Thankfully she intimated that he didn’t find her brusqueness off-putting. “Instead of him being like put off he loved it!” she exclaimed. “Here was a man who loved my honesty.
“I said I have to go home now. My editors are waiting, and he said, ‘Well I’m gonna take you home.’ I said, ‘Huh?’ I wanted him to,” she confessed.
Barbra was speaking to support the launch of her autobiography My Name Is Barbra, which weighs in at over 900 pages, with a 48-hour audio version, as the star recounts her extraordinary life and career.
While she also discusses her other high-profile romances with famous men such as Andre Agassi and Don Johnson, James hasn’t yet read what she has to say about them.
“He hasn’t even read my book through,” Barbra admitted. “I would read him passages so he was encouraging, but he hasn’t read it because it’s so big.”

Barbra and James celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in July this year having wed two years after that first meeting.
Their wedding, which took place in the backyard of Barbra’s Malibu home, was a star-studded event with guests including John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Quincy Jones and Sydney Pollack.
In his wedding speech, it was clear James was besotted with his new bride. “I can’t tell you how lucky I am that this would happen to me so late in life,” he told the guests. “Every night is a new adventure. Sleeping is a waste of time. I can’t wait to see her again in the morning,” he gushed.
Instead of a speech, Barbra paid tribute to her husband doing what she does best – she serenaded him with two new love songs.
