Matt Baker opens up on ‘priceless’ experience with parents after quitting The One Show

Former host of The One Show,Matt Baker, is back for a second series of Matt Baker: Travels with Mum & Dad, and he is loving every minute of travelling with his parents.

The new series shows the trio exploring the North East of England, from Durham to Thirsk, and Matt gives his parents some memories that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

The 45 year old said spending time with his loved ones is "priceless" after moving to be closer to his family.

Speaking exclusively to OK!, Matt said: “It’s priceless, and you know what getting to spend time together, and taking folk to places you know they are going to love, that are doable for them, to really experience, is invaluable.

“One of the things I really want to do with this show is encourage people to go out as families and just have that special precious time together.”

The TV star continued: “It doesn’t have to be big trips away, you can go there and back in a day, and you can spend that time.

“I think certainly as parents get older, you enter into this chapter, where you become a little bit more protective, and you are a bit more reluctant to go far, so if you can take your parents places, they will love it.”

Throughout the series, fans will get to see Matt take his parents to places that he knows they will enjoy, and help them create the memories that they can then talk about with their friends, and that is one of Matt’s favourite things about the More4 show.

He told us: “You know what I love about it is that they are new memories, because mum and dad are talking to other members of the family, and their friends about new memories that have just happened.

“They are not just necessarily just talking about stuff that happened years and years ago, they are talking about new stuff that they have just experienced. I think that’s really important."

The former Blue Peter star said it is “funny” because when you are younger, your parents take you places to experience stuff, but when they get older, we have to take them places to get these experiences.

Turning his attention to what his parents, Janice and Mike make of it, Matt revealed they “love it.”

He also explained: “I very rarely tell them what is going to happen, and they don’t want to know, they want that element of surprise.”

The perks don’t end there for the duo, as Matt revealed that some of the people that they meet on their adventures end up keeping in touch and becoming friends.

Finally, dad of two Matt revealed that his highlight of the series comes in episode five when the trio head to the Ford & Etal estate, where Janice gets to ride in a sidecar.

Matt Baker: Travels with Mum and Dad Series two airs every Monday at 9 pm on More 4.
