BBC Breakfast star Carol Kirkwood left red-faced after mortifying on-air blunder | The Sun

CAROL Kirkwood was left red faced following an embarrassing on-air blunder this morning on BBC Breakfast.

The Scots weather host was presenting her final forecast, when a slip of the tongue caused an awkward moment.

With the meteorologist telling viewers to wrap up for a wet and windy Halloween weekend.

However as the telly fave passed back to the studio, she accidentally called stand-in host Rachel Burden the wrong name and said "Ruth".

The flustered presenter covered her face as co-host Charlie Stayt assured her: "It's alright, it happens."

He added:"Do it one more time correctly, we'll pretend it didn't happen."

Carol continued: "That's it from me back to lovely Rachel, who is amazing, and Charlie, who's also amazing."

While Charlie joked: "No one even noticed."

Brushing off the error, Rachel laughed: "Any old name will do."

Rachel is usually heard on the airwaves in the morning as opposed to on the small screen as she regularly hosts 5 Live's breakfast show between 6am and 9am, but was quick to jump into Naga Munchetty's shoes

Rachel admitted she had to leave her beautiful surroundings to head to the Salford sofa but revealed she did so with glee.

Sharing a photo to Twitter of a beautiful beach, she wrote: "Would you mind coming back from this to sit on the on the sofa with Charlie Stayt, they asked? I had not a moment of doubt. See you at 6am."

It comes as Naga was missing from BBC Breakfast this morning following Sally Nugent's absence earlier this week.

The BBC One programme has seen a series of presenter shake-ups all week, with Naga being the latest star to go missing from the show.
