BBC Breakfast turns awkward as Jon Kay cuts Sally Nugent off in paper chat

BBC Breakfast turned slightly awkward during a snub from presenter Jon Kay during a chat with his co-host Sally Nugent.

The pair were going through the newspaper headlines of the day on Wednesday (October 5) when Jon was forced to cut himself – and, by proxy, Sally – off.

Sally had been reading aloud from a story about a content creator who splurged on billboards asking people to go on a date with him, wishing him luck at the end of the segment.

Ed Chapman added a snap of himself to a huge billboard in his home city of Leeds, with Jon quipping to Sally: “Have you been driving past it?”

“I’ve seen it!” she replied. She then explained: “He says he’s never been on a date and he’d like to go on a date. He’s a content creator so I think he’s probably quite creative and knows how to promote things, so that’s what he’s doing.”

She then added: “He’s received a string of messages from women aged 18 to 48 and he is arranging his first date!”

Squinting down at his own folded newspaper, Jon murmured: “I was going to show you that, but I’ll show you later. We haven’t got time at the moment.”

Looking slightly taken aback, Sally said: “Oh… okay?”

“I’ll tease you,” Jon said, grinning – before swiftly moving on to the next segment of the morning programme.

It comes after BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty was left despairing over a new addition to her family, and begged fans for their help online.

The star discovered an injured bat in her home which one of her felines had brought inside.

Taking to Twitter to ask for advice, Naga said: "Does anyone know how to get a bat to safety? [bat emoji]. "Cat brought one in yesterday. It's alive this morning, no obvious injuries, but not flying.

"Currently in a box with towels and a little water. Any rescue centres I can take it to in Herts? X."

Offering an update on the animal after fans flocked to her with suggestions, Naga updated her statement to read: "Is being sorted with a local rescue group – thank you for suggestions x."
