TV LEGEND Carol Kirkwood has revealed exactly what happened during her romantic proposal.

The BBC Breakfast weather presenter, 60, recently became engaged and showed off her stunning ring on Monday morning's show.

Carol was proposed to by fiancé Steve back in May, just before her 60th birthday on May 29.

However, she hadn't divulged any of the details until now.

The meteorologist explained that the proposal happened when they were enjoying a picnic.

She and partner Steve had gone for a walk near their home in Berkshire, and at first, she though something was wrong.

Carol spoke to HELLO! Magazine and explained that Steve was acting fidgetey.

She said: "It was a lovely, sunny day and we had taken a picnic with us, and we were sitting by the river, watching the boats going by.

"I turned to say: 'What's wrong?' He was on his knee, and he proposed.

"At first, I thought he was joking, but he said: 'No no, I really do mean it, Will you marry me?' I said: 'Yes!! Of course!"

The Scottish TV star explained that Steve chose her show-stopping diamond sparkler, called a "halo ring".

She said: "My other half, Steve, chose it himself.

I was very impressed – and he got the size right.
