He's best known for presenting the news to the nation on BBC Breakfast from 6am on weekday mornings.

But it appears BBC star Jon Kay was partying it up all night on New Year's Eve – and so much so that he almost missed the next day.

He wouldn't be only one struggling the next day as Brits love to see off the year with lively parties, fireworks and often plenty of booze, much to the detriment of the next day.

Co-host Sally Nugent asked him: "What did you do to celebrate New Year?", two which Jon replied: "I was at a party."

She cheekily asked him if he was nursing a hangover the next day when she followed up: "Did you wake yourself up on New Year's Day with a bit of a fright?"

Jon hinted that he'd been partying rather hard on New Year's as he woke up very late indeed the next day.

He candidly replied: "Just about New Year's Day, yes!" before the pair burst out laughing at his antics.

Sally was on topic as she proceeded to show Jon a photo of two brave women swimming in the sea near Edinburgh on New Year's Day – captured on the frontpage of a newspaper.

Jon clearly had no intention of such an act on New Year's Day 2024 as he replied: "Looks a bit muddy and cold, doesn't it?"
