BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty confessed she wished she'd kept her mouth shut during a tense moment with weathergirl Carol Kirkwood.

The host was discussing the freezing temperatures with Carol after her report – but said she wished she'd kept quiet when Carol proved her wrong in a heated blunder.

Things all kicked off on the morning programme as Carol told viewers: "It's going to be that bit colder, there'll be snow in the hills."

Naga then commented: "Carol, thanks very much! It does look like it will be a little calmer next week, I think, so people can take some comfort from that maybe."

Clearly disagreeing with her, Carol tilted her head to the side and said: "Hmm."

"Oh, Carol!" Naga snapped, as her co-presenter Charlie Stayt chimed in: "Well that's a no, isn't it? That was a Carol no."

Carol explained: "Not necessarily. Some of us might see some snow, Naga, so that's something we're keeping a very close eye on because it is turning colder.

"But it looks towards the end of next week like it might turn a wee bit milder again. The weather really is up and down at the moment."

Which is when Naga fumed: "Do you know, there are moments in this programme where I often wish I hadn't said anything at all."

Both Naga and Carol collapsed into giggles, as Carol quipped: "You're not the only one, Naga!"

"See you later, lovely," Naga told her, showing there was no true bad feeling between them – but further awkwardness was in store as Charlie told her: "Everyone's thinking about that one now."

"Yeah, yeah, okay," Naga grumbled in response.

It wasn't the only awkward encounter on Thursday's programme, as Charlie Stayt confessed he'd been told to "calm down" three times during filming.

Joking with Mike Bushell about getting his "game face" on like the roaring Southhampton manager Nathan Jones, Naga quipped: "That's Charlie every morning."

Charlie then confessed: "I've been told three times to calm down this morning. My enthusiasm has been watered down. Otherwise I would have been like that."
