BBC shares verdict on Stacey Solomon Sort Your Life Out animal cruelty claims

A verdict has been reached about Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out after the BBC show was hit with Ofcom complaints over animal cruelty.

Last month, Stacey faced over 1.5k Ofcom complaints over her show which sees the Loose Women star declutter people's homes alongside experts, cleaning guru Iwan Carrington, organising maven Dilly Carter and upcycling extraordinaire Robert Bent.

In one episode, the former X Factor contestant moved rabbits from a massive indoor enclosure into a more typical outdoor hutch which many argued was cruel.

Now, the BBC has come to a decision about the episode after countless fans shared their distaste with the regulator and on social media.

“The family’s pet rabbits usually live outside and were only living indoors for a short period of time after being neutered. They are therefore acclimatised to living in the garden,” the BBC said.

“The rabbits have full access to a wide, enclosed garden to roam around in, with the hutch being a place to come and go as they please during the day, as well as a safe and secure space for them to sleep in at night.”

Stacey, 33, who earlier this year welcomed her third child with her husband, Joe Swash, was hit with scathing remarks online after the episode initially aired.

One person wrote: “Love love @StaceySolomon but so disappointed that Sort Your Life Out has shown rabbits being moved from a nice spacious indoor run to a cramped outdoor hutch, hutches are absolutely not enough."

"Made the mistake of watching the end of #SortYourLifeOut,” another said, while a third added: "Poor rabbits got kicked out of the conservatory into a c***py, tiny, non-weatherproofed hutch outside! Completely unsuitable & irresponsible."

Someone else chimed in: "That hutch is way too small for those rabbits and where is the run @StaceySolomon #SortYourLifeOut @RabbitRWAF."

"Enjoyed this tonight until the rabbits were kicked into the garden,” another wrote, with someone else adding: "That hutch is too small for anything other than a bolt hole! There's enough bad rabbit rearing without this encouragement #SortYourLifeOut."

"Stacey, we were super disappointed to see the latest episode of your BBC show,” wrote Shrewsbury Rabbit Rescue. "Please refer to rabbitwelfare.co.uk and educate yourself on rabbit welfare and husbandry."

At the time, a spokesperson for the BBC told The Mirror: "The rabbits have full access to a wide, enclosed garden to roam around in, with the hutch being a place to come and go as they please during the day, as well as a safe and secure space for them to sleep in at night."

Stacey is yet to publicly address the backlash, though the show was earlier praised for Stacey’s approach to getting rid of sentimental items.
