BBC Strictly Come Dancings Jody Cundys life off screen with stunning fiancee Lucy

While Jody Cundy, CBE, has certainly made a name for himself in the world of sports as a decorated Paralympian, he's also found luck in matters of the heart. Here's everything you need to know about the sports star and his fiancée, Lucy Bowles.

Born on October 14, 1978, in England, Jody Cundy is a versatile athlete who has excelled in both swimming and cycling. Despite being born with a deformed right foot, which was amputated when he was just three years old, Jody's determination and talent have shone brightly throughout his career.

He has represented Great Britain in seven Summer Paralympics, amassing an impressive medal collection that includes eight gold, one silver, and three bronze medals across swimming and cycling events.

Jody's journey began in the pool, where he started swimming at the age of 10. Recognising his potential, his parents got him involved in disability swimming, where he quickly made waves, setting records for his age group.

He became a key member of his local King's Lynn club's team and made his international debut at the swimming World Championships in Malta in 1994, securing gold in the S10 100m butterfly and bronze in the S10 100m backstroke.

Jody also competed in the S10 Paralympic category, and his dedication to disability sport earned him an MBE in 2009. His contributions to swimming and cycling were further recognized with an OBE in 2017 and a CBE in 2022.

In the world of cycling, Jody competes in the C4 events, which are designed for individuals with lower limb impairments or lower limb functionality issues. In August 2023, he clinched gold in the C4 1km Time Trial at the 2023 World Championships in Glasgow and set a new world record of 10.427 for the MC4 200m flying start at the same event.

Adding a new twist to his illustrious career, Jody Cundy joined the lineup of famous personalities set to dazzle on Strictly Come Dancing 2023, marking another exciting chapter in his life.

In 2022, Jody shared heartwarming news with his fans—he announced his engagement to Lucy Bowles. The cyclist got down on one knee at the top of the Empire State Building during golden hour and she said yes.

Taking to Instagram to express his joy, he wrote, "2022 is done and dusted, I got engaged to my amazing fiancée @lulubo1982 in New York."

In further details about the day, he wrote: "What a beautiful few days in New York City with @lulubo1982.

"After spotting the Northern Lights on the flight over we tried to see as much as we could in the few days we had there.

"Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, Brooklyn Bridge, Rockafeller Centre, New York Public Library (no Ghosts, spotted stacking books), American Museum of Natural History, World Trade Centre, and many more.

"The trip was topped off by Lucy saying yes to my marriage proposal on top of the Empire State at golden hour as the sun was going down."

The Strictly hopeful concluded his post saying their trip was "a memorable few days in the city that never sleeps".
