BBC’s Carol Kirkwood spats with Charlie Stayt over ‘cutting’ air-time

BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood issues plea to Charlie Stayt

On Thursday’s instalment of BBC Breakfast, hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were speaking to Carol Kirkwood about what type of weather people across the UK can expect to see throughout the day. Although as the conversation drew to a close, Carol gave the duo a word of warning for when she gives her longer forecast later on in the show.

As Carol wrapped up her brief weather report for Thursday’s forecast, she gave the reigns back to Naga and Charlie back in the studio.

Finishing up, she told viewers: “I’ll bring you the rest of the Easter bank holiday weekend forecast in about half an hour. But, Naga and Charlie, back to you.”

Charlie replied: “Alright, we’ll see you in half an hour then.”

Laughing, Naga told her co-host: “She wasn’t threatening you, you know? She was just informing you.”

The BBC Breakfast star commented on how precise Carol’s timing was for when she was doing the next forecast.

Addressing Carol, Charlie swiped: “You shouldn’t be holding back on our weather information anyway Carol.

“If you’ve got something to tell us, just tell us.”

Defending the weather host, Naga interjected: “Well, she was trying to, you spoke over her. What were you saying, Carol?”

The 60-year-old then explained to Charlie and Naga why she has to be precise with the timings on the show.

She commented: “I have a finite amount of time Charlie to bring you the weather.

“But, it will be a longer one in the next half hour, depending on how long you speak of course.

“If you overrun, that cuts my time. So, can you keep it brief please?”

As Naga inhaled a big breath of air in shock over Carol’s comeback to Charlie, the presenter seemed taken aback as he joked it was usually the director who gives the commands.

He joked: “Today it’s Carol as well, you’re just ganging up.”

To which Naga swiped back, “You don’t listen to her (their director) either.”

Before speaking to Carol to get the weather forecast, Charlie and Naga touched on the upcoming emergency alert people will get getting on their phones on April 23.

Naga revealed she had once experienced a similar alert on her mobile while in America where she received a tornado warning.

Telling Charlie she witnessed the tornado, Carol told the two co-hosts she too had the same happen to her.

She said: “It was a tornado warning and you think, ‘What’s going on?’. When you see a tornado warning, that in itself is also pretty frightening.

“But, there’s no tornado’s in my forecast this morning I’m glad to say.”

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
