Bernice cracks the case over Wendy and Liam's affair in Emmerdale

Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) and Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson) have been playing a risky game on Emmerdale recently, after they embarked on a passionate secret affair.

While Liam is free and single, Wendy isn’t as she’s currently living with Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) at the B&B and has made it quite clear to Liam that she has no intention of breaking Bob’s heart by ending their relationship so she can be with Liam full-time.

In fact it seems that, for Wendy at least, the risks of the liaison only add to the thrill. Snatching stolen opportunities to get together, Wendy appears to be enjoying herself enormously and Liam seems more than capable of fulfilling her womanly needs, if her comment, ‘I’ve never made love twice in an hour before’ is anything to go by.

At the same time, Wendy genuinely loves Bob. ‘She’s in a deep and meaningful relationship with Bob,’ Susan Cookson told us when this storyline first began with Liam and Wendy’s drunken get-together in the surgery after an online awards ceremony. ‘She feels terrible because she does love Bob.’

Someone else who’s noted the charms of Bob is Bernice (Samantha Giles), his ‘work wife’ at the B&B. Recently Bernice has been casting longing glances in Bob’s direction after they almost kissed, and she’s appeared jealous of Bob lavishing attention on Wendy.

Samantha Giles told us that Bernice does have feelings for her co-worker. ’I think she’s worked out how she feels from them working together and spending more time together, so I think she has developed some genuine feelings. She does develop feelings quite quickly for people because she’s quite lonely, I think, but I think they’re genuine for Bob.’

No secret affair stays a secret for very long on Emmerdale – just ask Chas (Lucy Pargeter) – and it looks like Wendy and Liam’s affair could soon be exposed by none other than Bernice.

First there’s a near miss as Bob almost catches them having a charged moment in the Woolpack beer garden. Frankly not a very discreet place to be having a charged moment.

Then Bernice makes a surprising discovery. Tidying the bedrooms at the B&B she finds a mysterious message in one of the bins and the handwriting looks quite familiar. She compares it to an old birthday card from Liam and confirms that it is the GP’s writing.

What does the message say? Could the trail lead Bernice straight to Wendy? And will she tell Bob what she’s found?

Things could be about to get very messy indeed…
