Bernice (Samantha Giles) is well known for her inability to take criticism or rejection well, so it’s unsurprising that she’s left on the verge of a meltdown when she finds herself spurned in Emmerdale.
She has come to believe she is the voice of menopausal women across the village, but this latest news will give her a rude awakening.
Having acquired the B&B as a base, Bernice has gone to great pains to set up a safe environment to host her menopause sufferers support group.
She’s poured everything she has into arranging the group meet-up, and with her self-belief that everything she touches turns to gold, she doesn’t foresee it going wrong.
Therein lies her fatal mistake (fatal in terms of her suffering a social death). Her innate cockiness has blinded her to her own shortcomings – namely that she believes her group to be the best thing since sliced bread, but her attendees begin arguing otherwise.
One by one they drop out of the group, and Bernice is left hurt and embarrassed that her ladies are bailing on her.
With no self-awareness or ability for inward reflection, Bernice is hurt and embarrassed that she’s getting cancellations thick and fast. What could she have possibly done wrong?
