Johnny Galecki, best known for his portrayal of Leonard Hofstadter in all 12 seasons of hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, welcomed his first child, Avery, in 2019. A candid interview from the new book about the CBS comedy has now revealed the TV star was already thinking about his son’s future while he was filming his final moments with his long-running co-star Kaley Cuoco.

Johnny has confirmed one of his last scenes with Kaley included a small but heartwarming tribute to his son with his ex-partner Alaina Meyer.

Avery was born in November 2019, shortly after the completion of The Big Bang Theory’s 12th and final season.

The main cast member and his partner confirmed their split the following November and have since been co-parenting their son.

A new book, The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, by Jessica Radloff, features a revealing interview with Johnny about his experience filming the final episodes.

In the finale, Penny reveals she is expecting her and Leonard’s first child together in parallel with Johnny’s life off-screen.

“That was mirroring what my life was at that point, too, with my hand on Kaley’s stomach in the last scene of the show,” he recalled.

“That was a little something for my son, [Avery] Orbison, who wasn’t born yet, to see a little later in his life.”

Johnny confirmed he asked Kayley’s permission to let him include a small reflection on his own personal life in their character’s last moments.

“I asked Kaley if it was okay if I did that,” he added.

“And she smiled at me, knowing exactly why I was doing that, because that’s a little salute to him that will be forever.”

Johnny and Kaley previously dated for two years before their split in 2010, but they have since remained good friends.

His co-star has also reflected on Leonard and Penny’s private moment which brought The Big Bang Theory to an emotional close.

“To then end it like that, [this time] sitting next to Leonard and him touching Penny’s stomach…” she reflected.

“It was the perfect cap. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.”

Johnny and Alaina’s son Avery was born six months after the finale aired to millions of viewers worldwide.

The new book on the hit series is now on shelves, and details some major behind-the-scenes moments from The Big Bang Theory’s decade on screens.

There is even some insider intel on how sparks originally started flying between long-running co-stars Johnny and Kaley.

Meanwhile, Kaley has just confirmed she is expecting her own first child, a daughter, with her partner Tom Pelphrey.

In her latest Instagram post, she wrote: “Baby girl Pelphrey coming 2023. Beyond blessed and over the moon… I [love] you @tommypelphrey!!!”
