Britain’s Got Talent descended into chaos when judge Simon Cowell was reportedly set on fire by a brave contestant.

The former X Factor boss was taken on stage by a mysterious, mute and masked magician where he was instructed to sit in a chair with a hood over his head as a London audience looked on.

Members of the audience as well as fellow judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and new judge Bruno Tonioni looked on in horror as lighter fluid was then poured all over the hood.

According to the Mirror, Simon's head was locked in a box which was then opened at the front for the audience to see inside, and the magician dropped a flame into the box and his entire head went up in flames.

One onlooker said: "The audience screamed, judges were out of their seats screaming, everyone was totally stunned. The flames were put out and Simon got up looking a bit shell-shocked while the rest of the judges breathed a sigh of relief as he returned to the panel.”

Afterwards Cowell, 63, said he had “no idea” he was being doused with lighter fluid.

“I could feel liquid being poured on me but I had no idea it was lighter fluid!” he gasped.

Alesha allegedly informed him: “Simon, he set your entire head on fire!

"It was very scary, you are a very brave man to do that. It made me realise how much we care about you, I was ready to come up there and rescue you.”

Amanda then chimed in, dubbing the stint “horrific.”

“It was massively entertaining but horrific to watch. It was scary,” she said.

And new judge Bruno certainly got throw into the deep end during his first stint on the panel since replacing David Walliams, as he told the audience: “It reminded me of a scene from that movie, Saw, seeing Simon’s head in that contraption. I was captivated, I’ve never seen anything like that.”

Bruno plunged the show into chaos after he pressed his Golden Buzzer twice, admitting he has never seen the show before.

The ex Strictly Come Dancing judge had no idea the button, which sends hopefuls straight from audition to the live finals, could only be used once — and reacted to audience chants to send the incredible act through.

The judges are watching auditions at the London Palladium for the new series of the ITV show which will go out later in the year.
