Michelle Heaton has revealed a stomach-churning injury sustained while filming the latest series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
The former Liberty X singer took to Instagram to share a condition in her right eye caused by by "parasites found in extremely dirty water" which she contracted on the gruelling reality TV show.
"This is called 'swamp eye'," she said in a post showing her eye looking painful, red, watery and inflamed. "A year ago after returning from #saswhodareswins parasite’s found in extreme dirty water from the jungle, decided to return in my eye with me," she continued.
"They lived in there & found their new home for over 3 months. Unable to see properly. To this day my vision is still slightly blurred in my right eye."
The 44 year old star recalled how she went to training to appear on last year's Dancing On Ice wearing an eye patch, only removing it shortly before the series' live shows.
She finished: "People often comment on why I have a “wonky eye” – now you know!"
The Channel 4 series has already seen TOWIE star James Argent and MP Matt Hancock break down in floods of tears as the stars prove they have what it takes to make the Special Forces. Boy band singer Siva Kaneswaran also told how he has sought therapy after suffering from "aggression" and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder caused by taking part.
Love Island's Teddy Soares and Montana Brown, singer Gareth Gates and footballer Jermaine Pennant are among other famous faces who've been forced to abandon their glamorous lifestyles as they attempt to survive the most unforgiving jungle in the world in Thung Ui, North Vietnam.
Celebrities rushed to Instagram to support Michelle over her injury. Radio DJ Gemma Atkinson simply asked, "WFT?" while The Apprentice star Luisa Zissman said, "Gosh you poor thing!! That show has so many lasting injuries that come with it – great to watch tho!" The show's Chris Oliver, who puts the stars through their paces, added: "Terminator"
Fans also commented, with one saying: "Omg thats so scary. Wow your so brave @sas_whodareswins and @dancingonice are two of the most dangerous shows," and another commenting: "Weirdly, my pretty mate now has one glass eye due to parasites in Cornwall in the water getting into her contact lens and eating away then at her cornea!!!!! So she has a glass eye now poor thing."
Michelle had previously spoken exclusively to OK! about appearing on the show, saying it's even worse than it looks. She said: "You only see an hour a day on TV but you had to be there to endure the actual pain and understand.
"Little things like sleep deprivation, how wet it actually is, the conditions, we got talcum powder everywhere and it ended up actually making our feet feel worse!"
Her gruesome injury is the latest from the show, with this series' participants also said to have suffered from trenchfoot, a painful condition that develops when the feet are wet for long periods of time – it frequently occurred in soldiers during World War 1.
In previous years, Loose Women star Saira Khan broke her ankle, reality contestant Jake Quickenden ruptured muscles and sportswoman Shanaze Reade broke her shoulder.
