Childrens TV stars now unrecognisable in rare on-screen appearance

Byker Grove’s Billy ‘unrecognisable’ in Loose Women appearance

Byker Grove actors Billy Fane and Lyndyann Barrass looked almost unrecognisable in a rare on-screen appearance this week.

The two stars, who are best known for playing Geoff Keegan and Kirsty Spuggie’ Campbell, appeared on Thursday’s instalment of Loose Women to speak about the return of the show.

Billy was the moustached youth club leader on the CBBC show, although his character came to a deadly end when he was killed off in 2000 from a gas explosion.

Speaking on the ITV show, the former actor still had the infamous tash, but he had much shorter grey hair and black-rimmed glasses.

After leaving Byker Grove Billy starred in pantomimes throughout the UK but has stopped his acting career to go down a different path.

During his chat with the Loose Women panel, the 77-year-old said during his 50s he went into teaching adults who had dyslexia.

He said: “I went to teach in a young offenders institution, then I did a master’s degree in Special Educational Needs and Intuitive Learning.

“The college I was working for had the contract for delivering education in prisons and young offenders institutions across the country.”

Also putting her acting career to the side, Lyndyann told the ITV stars she now runs her own business.

Still featuring her red curly hair, she said: “At the moment I have my own cleaning company, Dusty Springclean.

“But I never actually came out of it as such, I got married, I had kids, I got divorced. Life happens.”

In July this year, it was confirmed that Byker Grove would be making a comeback 17 years after it came to an end.

Kickstarting the careers of Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, the two presenters will be executive producers on the reboot.

Touching on its revival, the Geordie duo said: “It’s obviously a show that’s very close to our hearts.

“The show which gave us our breaks so we couldn’t be more excited that we’ll be giving it a new lease of life.”

When Billy and Lyndyann were asked if they’d return to Byker Grove if asked, Lyndyann seemed open to the idea.

She replied: “Yeah absolutely! Without a shadow of a doubt, it’s something that I’d love to do.”

Loose Women continues on weekdays on ITV from 12.30pm.
