Coleen Nolan says watching Big Brother ‘is mentally traumatic’ – ‘I get the shudders’

Coleen Nolan is no stranger to the Big Brother house having enjoyed – or maybe endured – not one but two stints as a celebrity contestant.

The Loose Women star, 58, first stepped through the front door in 2012 to appear on Celebrity Big Brother alongside fellow housemates including actor Martin Kemp, glamour model Rhian Sugden and comedian Julian Clary.

After The Nolans singer finished as runner up to Julian, she re-entered the house five years later, beating The X Factor twins Jedward to emerge victorious – but the show was not without its drama for Coleen.

Now the show has returned to screens 20 years after the first series aired in 2000, Coleen has exclusively told OK! she finds it difficult to watch – but she's hooked!

“I get the shudders when they do all the tasks. I know what they’re going through, and what they’re feeling,” she explained. “Physically it’s fine, but mentally it’s traumatic.”

Blackpool-born Coleen, who is now happily loved-up and living with the boyfriend she met on Tinder, recently revealed that during her second stay was high-drama when she was rushed out of the house and straight to the hospital with a suspected heart attack.

Speaking on Loose Women, she recalled: "They called me into the Diary Room and they called a paramedic and they did two ECGs and they were fine."

After experiencing terrible pain she ended up being taken to hospital the night before the 2017 final, when she was announced as the winner.

She added: "I woke up to terrible, terrible chest pains the day before the final. I thought it was heartburn but the chest pains were really bad and I was shaking."

Along with the health scare, she also had to contend with a feud with fellow housemate Kim Woodburn, 81, who became a household name on the Channel 4 series How Clean Is Your House? in the early 2000s.

Speaking in an interview after leaving the house, Kim didn't hold back on her thoughts on winning Coleen, saying: " “How that woman won, when Jedward were sitting there, I have no idea. Public, I don’t know how you could let that boring fag ash Lil (win), with what I now know to be a rotten mouth. "

The pair later came face to face again on ITV's Loose Women and sparks flew once again, with Kim calling Coleen "trash", before walking off set.

There's also another reality show that Coleen has mixed feelings about – Dancing On Ice, which is returning in early 2024.

“When I hear the music for Dancing On Ice – I still get nervous, and feel sick,” she admitted, recalling her 2009 stint in which she and professional partner Stuart Widdall finished fourth.

“Even if you’ve enjoyed it, you remember the nerves and the adrenaline it just gives you that feeling again.”
