Coronation Street fans rage 'why do they keep doing this?!' as they call out big problem with new child stars | The Sun

CORONATION Street fans have raged 'why do they keep doing this?!' as they called out a big problem with the show's new child stars.

The ITV soap has always featured younger cast members alongside the adult characters and one of the most recent additions was Luca Toolan as Mason.

Mason is a High School bad boy who has already started to lead other young characters astray including Dylan Wilson and Liam Connor.

The Year 11 pupil is set to terrorise a number of residents in the coming months, including Liam.

However, some Coronation Street viewers have taken issue with the character before he's even really got started.

Writing on a soap forum, one Corrie fan said: "This is another oversized child if he is supposed to be the same age as the other children.

"He looks about 20. Why do they keep doing this?"

While Year 11 pupils are aged 15 to 16, Luca is 19 in real life, and another fan replied to the first post: "Guess he is meant to be but the actor is 19.

"Liam is 14, same as the actor, Dylan is 15, the actor is 16. They [are] in different school years as well, Liam in year 10, Dylan in year 11.

"[I] think they cast older teens as they can work longer hours at 16 plus, and can do more controversial stories, like Max's radicalisation."

They continued: "Seems odd in this story to cast such an older actor for what seems to be just a bad lad teen story, unless there is stuff to come I know nothing about."

Another pointed out: "Corrie could at least have built up a friendship between Liam and Dylan before they embarked on this tedious bad lad leading them astray plot. Have they even talked to each other before?

"I like the younger cast but can we have something else other than them just coming out the plot cupboard and getting straight into trouble."

Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
